On The Wall - August 2022

Maureen Wharton

Maureen uses artistic language to open fields of perception, trying to get to the essence of ‘no things’. As colors resonate with their matching musical scales, together they can bring out corresponding emotions. Feeling the colors as she paints and listening to their music helps her distill outer surfaces into simple forms that cross the boundaries of imagination. Maureen attended OCAD, York and Toronto Universities, and Studied Visual and Creative Arts at St. Lawrence College. Her art is inspired by her travels across Europe, South America, Southeast Asia and China. Recent influences on her work include: Color Field Painters (New York School), Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell and Barnett Newman.
